Treating Shoulder Injuries

The shoulder is the most mobile joint in the human body, enabling us to place our hand in a wide variety of positions around our body. While this mobility clearly has its advantages, the shoulder is susceptible to a number of specific and unique problems.

Shoulder instability is most often the result of a traumatic dislocation but can also occur as a result of accumulated smaller repetitive episodes. Ongoing instability can be functionally disabling and is also known to have significant long term implications including early arthritis if left untreated.

Rotator cuff pathology is the most common condition affecting the shoulder. The spectrum of pathology includes sub-acromial bursitis and impingement, tendinosis, full thickness rotator cuff tears and even cuff-related arthritis. Early assessment and accurate diagnosis will facilitate a faster and more reliable return to activity.

Shoulder arthritis can cause debilitating pain, stiffness and loss of function. Dr Alexander has trained in world-leading centres learning the most up-to-date techniques for treatment of arthritis in all ages. Justin has a special interest in minimally invasive shoulder replacement techniques and the treatment of shoulder arthritis in younger patients.
